Rather than a positive show of ethics, I think this policy indicates a lack of ethics among the hospital's employees. If they have doctors and students whose medical opinions are swayed by a free pen, what kind of shallow people are they admitting/hiring into the medical school?
Oh wait, this is Stanford, I just answered my own question...

Would a mandatory digital high-definition teaching camera in the operating rooms of Stanford's hospital cause less lawsuits or more lawsuits? To err on the side of truth is better than to err on the side of immoral and unethical lies.
