I blame the stupid title. "Thoroughly Modern Millie"? I mean, come on.
It was my favorite of all the (4) spring musicals I've seen. I wish more people had seen it.
"Emma Goldberg: The Musical" The more that you read about the progressives liberals of their age and time, the more you realize that their lives have set the stage of a modern day musical.
Are they any Jabberwackys at Stanford up to writing a musical play?
I think it's a shame that these folks are putting up shows that there's insufficient demand for. The NY Times report on Millie was negative, and we wonder why Ram's Head chose this musical above all others.

So, Thoroughly Modern Millie may be hard to sell, but remember it was a Julie Andrews movie, and the revival on Broadway was just a few years ago. It got 11 Tony nominations (and won Best Musical) and had a lot of great press about its star, Sutton Foster. It did very very well.
Theatre in general, and musicals in particular, are a risky business, more so on a college campus. You have to balance what an audience might want to see (students, staff and community alike), with profitability and what performers and technicians a) want to do and b) what they will get something out of to grow from. Millie is an awful show, no doubt, but colleges are the place to take this risk.
