Kimball...tsk tsk tsk...when will you learn?
Kimball: The scamming capital of Stanford.
The two solicitors also came here to Arroyo. We called the police and they came and stopped them and took them away (I think they probably escorted them off campus). They were SUPER sketchy.
I had these 2 guys come to my door in Quillen @ Escondido Village. I chatted with them casually, knowing they were fulla shit, (one guy said he lives in New Jersey... what the FUCK would he be doing here?) then sent them on their way.
30 min. later, as I was leaving my building and I saw a cop car outside with those 2 same guys being questioned. lol!
One question: Why didn't the Daily print descriptions of these two guys in this story? Are they afraid of being politicaly incorrect and saying one is a black male, approx 5'9" with close-cropped hair and the other is a hispanic male, slightly taller with a shaved head; both are clad in hoodies and urban-branded jeans?
Hmmmmm......
Uh, guys, this same racket has been running for at least twenty years -- see the Times's "Door-to-door Sales Groups Are Said to Exploit Teen-Agers", 1987, http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9B0DE1DF173DF934A35757C0A961948260 .
I'm not sure it's completely accurate to call these kids "scammers." Closer might be "victims" or "cultists"; they're trapped in an organization which is pretty close to Scientology or the LaRouche machine. The Times also published a lengthy, in-depth feature about the sad lives these kids lead about a year ago, at http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/21/us/21magcrew.html , which is worth reading to get a broad background of who these people are and why they're trying to sell you things.
Wow, what an eye-opening NYTimes article. I highly encourage people to follow the link. Thanks, Michael.
The video was sad. We should try advocating for these kids instead of making them out to be scammers...we might lose a few dollars but they lose much much more.
Maybe the Daily was afraid of being politically incorrect. If so, I don't think that's what Jones was referring to and the description given my H.Bomb would have been just fine, and more accurate. I think a problem arises when people are vague and say things like "dark looking". What exactly does that mean? Who should people be looking for? More detailed descriptions are much appreciated.
And I agree. The Times article was really interesting. Definitely read.
