Kornberg’s inexhaustable work ethic praised

NEWS| There was no single “Eureka!” moment in the work leading to Structural Biology Prof. Roger Kornberg’s Nobel Prize. But today, six years after that key refinement was completed and two months after he traveled to Sweden to accept the 2006 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, Kornberg is sanguine about his accomplishment.

Pot-like chemicals heal disease

NEWS| Smoking pot is not an effective cure for Parkinson’s disease, according to Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Prof. Robert Malenka. But a study by Malenka and co-author Anatol Kreitzer that was published in “Nature” last week indicates that increased levels of molecules similar to the active ingredient in marijuana can rescue mice from Parkinson’s-like symptoms.
